junk September 7, 2010 Peter Sauerborn (Orange County, CA) the plastic (yes plastic) dimmer switch arrived broken but we did not discover it until it was assembled and packaging was discarded so it was too late to return. Also the threads were really bad so it is difficult to assemble.
Great floor lamp with even, warm light August 28, 2010 Spudly McGruff (Philadelphia, PA) Simple to put together and nicely functional. I have several of these floor lamps, as they work well in my home theater because they provide a natural light, with no buzzing sound when dimmed. The dimmer switch on the lamp has sufficient range to support the moods I like to have in the room. I also have two of these in my bedroom, and they're great to read by.
Not bad, but the dimmer disappoints August 25, 2010 requiembell (Norwalk, CT USA) This is a relatively cheap floor lamp and it does get the job done. And some of the the horror story reviews notwithstanding, although its parts may not the most finely machined, assembly was not an issue for me. The dimmer does disappoint, though; there's no spectrum to range across. It seems to have only two settings: "kind of brighter" and "kind of not so bright"- which is kind of unsatisfactory, so I can't say I'd recommend this light unreservedly.
Pleased with Good Earth Lighting Lincoln Park Torchiere August 18, 2010 Mark Van Alstine This lamp assembled well, is structurally adequate, and has a glass diffuser (unlike the cheap plastic difusser found on some other similarly-priced lamps). This lamp very well provides the added lighting I need in my office, and blends in acceptably with the existing decor. For the price, I couldn't have asked for anything more. Prior reviews caused some concern that I'd find assembly prone to cross-threading and damages. In fact, I had no problem whatsoever with assembly. If I needed another lamp, I'd consider one of these.
Horrible quality control but light itself is very good and price great July 30, 2010 Jeffrey N. Wilens (California) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Let's face it, a cheap CFL torchierre at Lamps Plus, etc. costs $99 or more. For $50 you cannot beat the price and the light quality is good. However, as has been pointed out, the quality control on the tubes and threadings is abysmal. We bought 5 units in January 2010, returned 1 for a replacement and installed the 4 originals and one replacement. Six months later, all but one bends at a slight angle from the bottom threading into the base. There seems to be no way to align the tubes together to avoid some degree of overall "tilt." As of July 2010, all are still working, none have falled over although the leaning tower of Pisa comes to mind. There is no excuse for the poor quality of the manufacture.
